Round Barrow, Craig Las, Near Mona
Primary Reference Number (PRN) : 2150 Trust : Gwynedd Community : Llangristiolus Unitary authority : Ynys Mon NGR : SH41527487 Site Type (preferred type first) : BRONZE AGE BARROW Status : Scheduled Monument
Description : A barrow is clearly visible at Craig Las. <1>
The barrow, 9.0m diameter and 1.2m high is situated on a hill crest, and is mutilated on its east side, probably as a result of wood construction. <2>
The barrow rises up to 1.2m above the level of the land around but cultivation of the surrounding field has encroached slightly onto the edges of the monument giving a slightly squared off appearance on plan. It still measures some 15m in diameter, and there are no obvious indications of disturbance around the centre. <3>
Site as described. <4>
11m diameter round barrow slightly 'squared off' by agriculture but still prominent on the ridge above Mona. Entirely turfed over. Would have been visible from all but SW. Stands on a rounded NW-SE ridge. (Smith, 2003)
