Summary : This PRN represents part of the route of RR623 as proposed by Margery, running from Castell Collen to Llandovery. RR623 itself continues on to Carmarthen. This route also forms part of the 'Via Julia Montana' suggested by Colt Hoare and Fenton, which was believed to continue west of Carmarthen to St. Davids. This proposed route generally follows the line of modern roads but, except for known stretches of Roman road, much of the route is conjectural. Following the accurate plotting of cropmarks from aerial photographs, a more accurate picture of the true course of the Roman road is available. While the actual route and the proposed route broadly follow the same course,the Roman road can now be traced in fields on either side of the proposed route or other modern roads.
