Spitty Copperworks

Summary : Copper smelting began at Spitty bank on the east side of the Loughor in 1809 as part of the Spitty Bank Copper Company. The copper works closed in 1811 after only two years to be reopened in 1825 by J Shears and Sons. From 1825 to 1857 the works changed hands twice more. The copper works closed finally in 1857 to be reopened in 1869 as the iron and tin plate works.
