Summary :
There were two pairs of paired kilns at Cei Bach (25507 & 30915), built into the bottom of an eroding coastal slope of boulder clay immediately adjacent to the beach. Both are shown as 'Old Kiln' on both 1st & 2nd Ed. 25" maps, the westerly being shown as eroded on the second edition. 'Ceredigion's Coastal Heritage' stated that one pair had been destroyed (and they illustrate the remaining pair of which half survived). Moore-Colger later described both surviving although ruinous. The western pair (25507) have been totally eroded or destroyed by sea defences recently built in the area. The eastern pair (30915) are almost completely destroyed, only the rear walls remain and are very ruinous. These are presumably the kilns illustrated in 'Ceredigion Coastal Heritage'. They were blown up by Cerdigion Heritage Coast because they were dangerous ( in information from Heritage Coast Warden). Erosion will continue. The surviving remains are of no great importance but should be included in any ground survey of limekilns in the area. GW. 1995.
