Summary :
FOEL ERYR
A round cairn, much disturbed by visitors moving stones and creating marker cairns, measuring circa 19m diameter by 3m high. Small hollows have also been created within the cairn by visitors. The cairn is situated on the summit of Foel Eryr the second highest point, at circa 468m, on the Preseli hill range and is a drystone structure with no vegetation
cover. There are massive near 360 degree panoramic views with only the higher ground of Foel Cwmcerwyn to the ESE closing. Cairn PRN 1572 is clearly visible at 104 degrees as is cairn PRN 1573 at 110 degrees both of which lie on Foel Cwmcerwyn some 2.98kms distant. The barrows on Cnwc, PRNs 1584 and 1583, would also have been visible prior to the planting of the forest. N Cook PFRS 2004


Description :
Heritage volunteers for PCNPA discovered a stone ring during a monitoring visit on 29/12/2022. The ring was made from stones taken from the schedule cairn. The volunteers replaced the stones to deter future instances. The disturbance has been reported as a Heritage Crime 03/01/2023.

A Heritage Crime report was made on 22nd January 2021 by Community Archaeologist for PCNPA regarding the disturbance and rearrangement of stones from the Bronze Age burial cairn.
