Primary Reference Number (PRN) : 101023 Trust : Clwyd Powys Community : Ceiriog Ucha Unitary authority : Wrexham NGR : SJ17513551 Site Type (preferred type first) : BRONZE AGE ROUND BARROW Status : scheduled monument
Description : Ellis Davies gives dimensions of tumulus as 30 paces circumference, height 2 and 1/2 ft. Surrounded by shallow ditch.Small round hollow in the centre. Dug into and practically levelled about 1854 by 2 men looking for treasure. Apparently found nothing of interest. Situated close to SE corner of a small plantation, and crossed by a wire fence.
ROUND BARROW 9M IN DIAMETER 0.6M HIGH WITH A SHALLOW DITCH AROUND PART OF PERIMETER HAS BEEN FILLED WITH FIELD CLEARANCE STONES (O.S. 1963)
Height 0.65 (0.4 on N side). Trace of ditch remains on W side (Cadw 1989).
Roughly circular mound, now irregular due to disturbance. E-W fence crosses N side, with N-S fence on boundary bank to W. Small modern plantation within 2m to SE. Mound is 7m diam x 0.6m high, turf covered, with depression in centre. Spread of loose clearance stones on S and E sides may be filling a ditch. Apparent ditch on W wide (Cadw 1989) is an illusion created by proximity of field bank. Further clearance in field to N. Possible trace of ditch c. 1.2m wide x 0.3m deep to NW in area of reeds (CPAT 1999).
