Maen Huail stone

Description : A rough block of limestone on west side of the market square. Traditional site of beheading of Huail brother of Gildas by King Arthur.
Stone measures 1.2m wide by 0.6m deep by 0.6m high. (Burnham, H 1995, 101-102)
Remains of wrought iron railings in front of eastern face removed before March 1999. Stone supported on a concrete plinth. Plaque on wall of bank above stone reads "Maen Huail on which tradition states King Arthur beheaded Huail, brother of Gildas the historian" (Cadw, 2002).
