Carreg-y-llech Standing Stone

Description : SANDSTONE STANDING STONE 1.8M HIGH 1.9M WIDE 0.4M THICK.IT IS NOT DRESSED POSS ORIGINALLY STOOD ON BARROW WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN DESTROYED.; OS 1977. Single standing stone, of undressed sandstone, 1.8m high, 1.9m wide and 0.45m thick. Pennant (1783, 31) describes it as "a vast monumental stone .... set erect on a tumulus coarsely paved". No definite trace of tumulus now visible, but ground rises very slightly around stone.
NE facing and leaning in that direction. From E there appears to be a slight rise in the ground from N-S. Around base of stone ground is eroded forming a depression, probably due to animals rubbing against stone. Situated on edge of ridge with ground falling away to N. (CPAT 1999).
